FAQ
New to Argentine Tango? You’re in the right place!
You don’t need a partner, you don’t need experience, and you won’t be thrown in at the deep end. We teach step-by-step in a friendly, structured way—so you feel confident, safe, and supported from your very first session.

What your first session feels like
Most beginners feel a little nervous—totally normal. You’ll be guided throughout, you can take breaks whenever you need, and we focus on the foundations that make tango feel good: walking, connection, balance, and musicality

Do I need a partner to join?
Not at all—you’re very welcome to come on your own. We rotate partners in class (unless you’d prefer not to), which helps everyone learn faster and feel included. If you come with a partner, that’s lovely too.

I’m a complete beginner… is this really for me?
Yes. Our beginner courses are designed for people starting from zero. We teach step-by-step with clear structure, and we focus on helping you feel confident on a real social dance floor—not just learning steps.
What should I wear? Do I need special shoes?
Wear something comfortable that you can move in. For shoes, choose something secure on your foot that allows a little pivot (a smoother sole helps). You don’t need tango shoes to start.

I’m worried I’ll be the only one who doesn’t know what they’re doing.
That’s one of the most common feelings. Beginners are all learning together, and we create a friendly, no-pressure atmosphere where questions are normal and progress is celebrated.

Is tango very close? What about personal space and boundaries?
Tango can be danced in a more open embrace or closer embrace, and you’re always in control of your boundaries. We teach connection in a respectful, comfortable way, and you can choose what feels right for you.

What’s the difference between a class, a milonga, and a practíca?

-
Class: structured learning with coaching
-
Milonga: a social tango event (dance evening)
-
Practíca: a relaxed practice space to try things out
If you’re new, we’ll guide you to the best next step so it feels welcoming, not intimidating.
Can I learn to lead or follow (or both)?
Yes. We’re happy to support you in learning the role you want—and if you’d like to explore both over time, we can help with that too.
What if I miss a week of a course?
Life happens. If you miss a session, you can still continue—we’ll help you catch up with the key ideas. If you know you’ll miss multiple weeks, tell us and we’ll suggest the best option.

I have an injury / accessibility needs—can I still take part?
Often yes, with small adjustments. If you message us briefly about what you need, we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible and help you feel safe and supported.
If you’re new, we recommend:

-
Start with a Beginner Course (best structure + fastest confidence)
-
Add a practíca to settle the basics in a relaxed setting
-
Join a milonga when you feel ready (we’ll guide you)
